چکیده

The application of combined research methods, such as hydrochemical and isotopic analyses, facilitates understanding the origin water constituents migration contaminants in aquatic environment. presented study attempts to identify contamination sources affecting quality within Kozłowa Góra reservoir catchment area (southern Poland). A total 100 samples were collected from surface (the Brynica river, streams, reservoir) groundwater (a Quarternary aquifer) four time periods. During fieldwork, physicochemical parameters measured (temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, redox potential, dissolved oxygen). chemical analysis included determination major ions (HCO3−, SO42−, Cl−, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+), nutrients (NO3−, NO2−, NH4+, PO43−), organic carbon. was complemented by sulphur oxygen sulphate, which enabled a more precise identification stressors different parts area. Chemical results (δ34S = 4.38–13.99‰; δ18O 3.59–13.30‰) revealed that wastewater discharges agricultural activities have significant influence on chemistry River other streams. At some sampling points, lower manifested elevated concentrations NO3− (up 22.6 mg/L) several (e.g., up 114 mg/L for 51.52 12.5 PO43−). deteriorated mainly infiltration sewage leaky septic tanks. level varied depending location, higher values conductivity observed residential areas. recharge drinking reservoir, thus its depends these sources. dilution presence biochemical processes led reduction contaminant (down 3.5 NO3−, 32 0.21 <0.05 PO43−) compared river streams supplying reservoir. role discharge evolution chemistry. will be used further substances water, including microcontaminants.

Nitrate Pollution and Preliminary Source Identification of Surface Water in a Semi-Arid River Basin, Using Isotopic and Hydrochemical Approaches

Nitrate contamination in rivers has raised widespread concern in the world, particularly in arid/semi-arid river basins lacking qualified water. Understanding the nitrate pollution levels and sources is critical to control the nitrogen input and promote a more sustainable water management in those basins. Water samples were collected from a typical semi-arid river basin, the Weihe River watersh...

Tracing potential soil contamination in the historical Solvay soda ash plant area, Jaworzno, Southern Poland

This study of soil conditions was carried out on 30 meadow soil (podzol) samples from the vicinity of the soda ash heap in Jaworzno, supplemented by analyses of 18 samples of waste deposited on the heap. In all samples, the total content of macroelements (Ca and Na) and heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Ni, Pb and Zn) as well as pH were analysed. The element concentrations were measured using inductively c...

Management of Contamination Risks and Identification of Contamination Sources

Abstract: Some aspects of management of contamination risks based on monitoring contamination sources are under consideration. The case when direct measurements are impossible and the values of the contamination inputs should be estimated through observations of indirect indicators is studied. Standard mathematical models describing the diffusion of a contaminant in the form of partial differen...

Isotope-hydrochemistry of Arnave karstic spring and Shirin dareh dam reservoir, North Khorasan

Surface and groundwater resources such as Arnaveh karstic spring and Shirin Dareh reservoir are the main sources of drinking water and agricultural activity in the North Khorasan province, northeast of Iran. The main agents of this study are to evaluate the origin, hydrochemical and isotope characteristics of water resources and also suitability of the Shirin dareh reservoir water for drinking ...

Identification of groundwater contamination sources of Lakan lead and zinc mine, Khomain, Iran

Altogether 20 groundwater samples were collected around the Lakan Pb and Zn mine in Iran. Samples were analyzed for 8 constituents including Fe, Pb, Hg, Mn, Zn, CN, SO4 and Cl using standard method. The results show that the average concentrations of constituents were 0.01, 0.60, 0.10, 0.01, 0.40, 35, 0.01 and 5.95 mg/kg for Fe, Mn, Pb, Zn, Hg, SO4, CN and Cl, respectively. The computed contami...
